BIBLICAL EXHORTATION

POPULAR ERRORS 1

SPIRITUAL WORSHIP AND 'CHRISTIAN LIBERTY'

'True worshippers' of the Father are simply those who are led by the Spirit of God -

not only in earthly business but in heavenly matters.

The common errors regarding 'Christian liberty' spawn from the notion that freedom is, or can be, absolute;

in contradiction to the Biblical truth that we are released from the power of darkness (and false gods)

in order to walk in the light and love of Christ - to whom pertains (legal and compassionate) constraints,

not only in earthly work and business but in heavenly life and worship.

Much of the carelessness regarding casual (and profane) attire, music and dancing, for example,

in the context of 'worship' meetings,

is born out of the misunderstanding that the liberty born again Christians already have in the spirit

also belongs to the body in it's present condition -

even before the prospective change (resurrection) that so far only Christ has undergone.

SPEAKING IN TONGUES AND 'SPEAKING IN TONGUES' !

Speaking in tongues was a sign used by God

- particularly during the time of transition between Jesus' earthly ministry and the completion of the holy scriptures - especially to convince foreign language speaking Jews gathered at Jerusalem

that the early church was established by God.

The modern day claims regarding 'speaking in tongues' generally contradict the Bible's description of the phenomenon,

notably in that the language was to be understood by the audience (either directly or through an interpreter)

in order to edify and was to be subject to church order.

GENDER EQUALITY AND 'FREEDOM OF ROLE'

THE LOCAL CHURCH AND 'THE BODY OF CHRIST'

New Testament 'local' churches are secular organizations promoting (natural and spiritual) Biblical religion.

The body of Christ is an (organic) spiritual union of all born again Christians as the members of Christ who is the head,

and is not synonymous with individual local churches (which may have unsaved attendees).

The misapprehension of the 'body of Christ' is an ignorance of the kingdom of God (in favour of earthly philosophy);

denying, to some degree, general Christian life and fellowship as well as the written word of God.

THE FAITH OF ABRAHAM AND 'THE RIGHTEOUSNESS OF CHRIST'

The 'faith reckoned to Abraham for righteousness' was his belief in God -

not only to give him a son in his (and Sarah's) old age but ultimately also a descendant

who would be the Messiah able to save (resurrect) himself as much as any other believer.

The heresy referred to as the 'righteousness of Christ imputed to us'

is the belief that Jesus (the Lamb of God) not only atoned for our sins by the shedding of his blood

but enabled us to receive his righteousness - as a transaction that also credits us with the works of Jesus.

The erroneous doctrine attempts to merge the principle of Christian righteousness (and consequent rewards)

- by virtue of our level of conformity to Christ through his spirit and the subsequent works done in our own body -

with the nature of saving Christian faith (the predominant reference of the 'faith of Abraham')

through which we receive the atonement achieved by, and accredited to, Jesus (God) alone, as a gift,

regardless of the worth and rewards (glory) of our own works.

CHRISTIAN VICTORY AND 'SINLESS PERFECTION'

New Testament Christian victory extends to the destruction of sin (as opposed to a mere Old Testament avoidance)

whereby the indwelling sin that remains in us is dried up from the roots and strangled from bearing fruit,

even though this victory is conditional and the devil's works can be resurrected and again spring up.

'Sinless perfection' is a term used in reference to a Christian's eternal (resurrection) state, and victory,

after sin has been uprooted and no longer remains in the flesh or any part of the Christian.

This application of the term is sound but should not be confused with the more limited New Testament victory.

The problems encountered here relate to a fundamental unclarity regarding where (and when) the terms are appropriate.
