If the very definition of 'revival' implies that something had previously enervated, what then of concepts that are (supposedly) intrinsically potent and permanent, even eternal ? The question, as far as Christians should be concerned, is not of objective fact but of subjective impression (experience). Does our heavenly Father subject us to vacillatory 'waves' of victory and prominence, with the accompanying affections and disaffections - as though religion were almost a sport; or does He call us to recognize the Christian kingdom (in life or death)
as 'treasure hid in a field' ? Do we preach God's kingdom for the sake of God Himself and the blessing of another, or in order that we ourselves may feel better in this generation - and is this question not the essence of the self-examination designed to separate us from other kingdoms ?
